Snow Patrol have had to withdraw from the Meteor Ireland Music Awards, Hot Press has learned.
The decision was forced on the band following the news that lead singer Gary Lightbody had broken his jaw. So far no information has been released on how the break happened – though it is clear that singing is not an option when your jaw is – even metaphorically speaking – in a sling.
The Meteor Ireland Music awards take place at the RDS in Dublin on February 19. Among the acts who will play on the night are Westlife, Florence And The Machine, Bell X1, Pixie Lott, Paulo Nutini, The Coronas and The Script.
Ouchies =/

The "Broken Jaw" album is going to be a good one! Didn't he write a lot of Final Straw from his hospital bed? Or maybe it was just one song.

I think he fell down the stairs drunkenly and ended up in hospital. Wrote a few songs at the time. I remember reading it somewhere.

" The five man band, now rated one of the biggest acts in Britain, struggled for 10 years before hitting the international big time with the single Run in 2004.
That song, Lightbody also revealed to the UK's biggest-selling music magazine, is autobiographical - it is based on a "bender" he went on when he was in Glasgow.
"I fell down a full flight of stairs," he said.
"A fall like that could easily finish you off ... I wrote Run soon after on this little guitar I'd tried to smash up in my sh**ty little room near Hillhead. The words 'light up, light up' gave me this sense of a beacon. There had to be light at the end of the tunnel."
