Striking you at times as the sort of band with one finger permanently on the self-destruct button, especially when things are going particularly well for them, getting ready to wax lyrical over a new Delorentos record leaves you feeling somewhat exposed. Nevertheless, with their third album the Dubliners have finally made the record we knew they had in them. They possess a rare quality as a band in that an aura of togetherness comes across when they play together and while at times before the songs and creativity unfortunately didn’t quite match this insane chemistry, here they’ve finally married the two in stunning fashion. The result is a completeness in sound courtesy in part to famed producer Rob Kirwan but principally down to allowing some pulp rich creative juices to flow freely. By ditching some of their over-used trebly riffs and predictable choruses Delorentos have all of a sudden found they’ve a hell of a lot to contribute in their stead. Not that they’ve have ditched their old sound completely. ‘Right to Know’ is a nod to better glories past while ‘Did We ever Really Try?’ contains their early indie pop sensibilities. On the whole though the songs are less constrained, more expansive (‘Care for’ has some Jon & Vangelis like vocal shimmers given the Delos treatment) more emotional and just written on a higher plateau. The energy on ‘Give It Up Now’ is matched by some brilliant playing and is one of the songs of their career. One could justifiably say Delorentos have now found their sound but they are still capable of delivering so much more and the hope is that this exceptional record serves as a springboard to further brilliance. ***** www.heinekenmusic.ie/reviews/albums/5158/delorentos-little-sparks/

For those who didn't make it to the video shoot or hear about it, you'll just have to wait and see because I don't even know where to begin explaining it.

Hahaha, didn't spot that first time around.
The Snow Patrol reference in the Hotpress Review is pretty apt I thought. He must read this forum.

Once In Love with Details and You Can Make sound, Delorentos does not have much to prove in Ireland. Little Sparks, the third album, is en route to the Irish record stores scheduled for release on January 27. Touteouïe had the chance to hear this new project in advance, then what happens? Release a third album is always risky, and some groups do not tread too. It takes the same and start again. The Delorentos them had something else in mind and deliver a great album, quite different from what was used to hearing. And with an introduction to the subject as Did we ever really try, you have no problems getting into the bath. It's catchy and so effective that after 2 or 3 plays we are surprised to know the words and sing them. The rest is just as successful. Ranging from acoustic tracks and some more touching federations, Delorentos will give heart joy and we love it. There are tracks cut for large audiences: Right to Know, Pace Yourself, Give it up. And there are more ambitious titles, more different. Bullet in a gun or the excellent Sparks Little which gives its name to the album. We'll even come forward to say that it is surely the best title of all. A discrete and rhythmic guitar hidden behind the singer's voice and then a gradual rise of the battery is added to the sauce. If it stopped there, it would be well, but gradually as the song progresses, different sounds are added together. The piece grows, comes to life in a fairly interesting. Like a spark that would spread? In any case, the title ends in fireworks and leaves us speechless. Let's not forget the walks, as for you Waited so long that takes all his strength and sincerity in the singer's fragile voice, or his break with Swimmer piano / guitar or Witness in the Dark which is responsible for finish album smoothly. Little Sparks is definitely an album of maturity. Without any pretension, the Delorentos find their way (and voice), their sound and a lightness that makes us feel good. Overall, more acoustic and more adventurous than the previous two albums, Little Sparks has not finished running in Touteouïe. The year 2012 started very well! There is still no release date for France. It will surely still far behind but you can still get the album in import or going for a walk on the green island. And take the opportunity to see them in concert as you are. History help you book your airline tickets, the Delorentos are in Dublin on February 25, March 2 in Limerick and Cork on March 3. Us, we will return safely. Roughly translated using Google from touteouie.wordpress.com/2012/01/16/delorentos-little-sparks/

Delorentos, probably Ireland’s best alternative band in recent years, are gearing up for the release of their third album “Little Sparks”. Hailing from north Dublin, Kieran, Ró, Ross and Níal, have been quietly working away for the past few months with the help of Mercury Award winning producer Rob Kirwan to give us their most ambitious album to date. Opening the album is the lead track from the recently released “Little Sparks EP”, “Did We Ever Really Try”. It could have been a disastrous move, placing the best known song on the album first; it could have been downhill from this point. Those Delo boys were clearly confident with their material because it is a move that paid off. Although a fantastic song, it merely eases the listener in for what is forty five minutes of pure aural pleasure. Already a YouTube hit, “Bullet In A Gun”, will not disappoint fans, its’ seamless transition from acoustic to full band gives it an extra kick. Following up a single like “S.E.C.R.E.T”. was never going to be an easy task, but if any band can do catchy indie pop well, it’s Delorentos. “Care For “may well become “Little Sparks’” own sing along classic; with a catchy upbeat tempo, harmonies, dancey guitars and clever lyrics, it is probably the song that remains truest to the original Delorentos sound that made us all fall in love with them. One of the most surprising tracks on the album is “Give It Up Now”. While most of the album has a much more serious and mature sound, “Give It Up Now” almost goes in the opposite direction. It is unashamedly 80s sounding and well, just fun! It makes no attempt to be “cool” and that’s why it works so well. Sounding like the beautiful love child of Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen and Muse, there is no doubt this will become a live favourite at future gigs. If this isn’t a single, it’s a crime! On first listen of the album one of the most striking things is just how much the drums have improved. While there was never anything wrong with the drumming on earlier releases, they were often overshadowed by catchy guitar hooks. Little Sparks really is an opportunity for Ross’ talents to shine. While a great album, there is no denying in places it may just be too different for some fans of “In Love With Detail”. However, while it may alienate some older fans it is also likely to attract a whole new audience. The sound is more ambitious; bigger and bolder, with a less pop feel. Some of the more tender songs on the album show just have much Delorentos have matured as songwriters. “Little Sparks” is a wonderful return to form and hopefully won’t be the last album we hear from them. www.goldenplec.com/reviews/review-delorentos-little-sparks/

Congratulations to all our winners, especially to Aisling on her induction to the Delorentos Forum Hall of Fame. Her induction will begin in due course. But for now, that's all from me folks. Best of luck in the New Year and I'll see you all at a gig at some stage no doubt.
Le Dea-Ghuí,
Niall.
