Are you saying the Irish language doesn't have a word for "relevant"? That's a disgrace! I think it's ábhartha. Gaelige's all I'm thinking about at the moment. Paper 2 tommorro!

So, seems as if I missed the deadline for this article. I didn't even get the question sent off to the lads because of other course work that needed to be done.
Hoping to take a different spin on a new article regarding radio coverage for homegrown acts. Have a few iinterviews lined up with the manager of the label in charge of damien dempsey, declan o rourke and the likes and another lad from Wexford called Michael Whelan.

Ok so this won't be written for quite a while with essays and exams coming up but I'm looking for a little bit of input.
1) Do you folk believe that homegrown Irish acts receive enough radio airplay in Ireland?
2) Stations such as Phantom FM have gone some way to promote Irish acts but they only cater to a specific genre of music. What radio stations in your opinion should be most responsible for playing homegrown Irish music?
3) What bands, in your own opinions should be achieving greater radio coverage. Also what bands have fallen by the wayside but could have and most likely would have stayed together were it not for the lack of support?
4) If you disagree and believe homegrown Irish acts do get enough support then please elaborate. Every story has two sides.

1) Do you folk believe that homegrown Irish acts receive enough radio airplay in Ireland? Straight out answer NO! 2) Stations such as Phantom FM have gone some way to promote Irish acts but they only cater to a specific genre of music. What radio stations in your opinion should be most responsible for playing homegrown Irish music? Phantom FM is the best "commercial / private" station at the moment for Irish music and they have a wider range of stuff.. But its very rare if at all that they will play any kind of Irish music thats not Indie/popy type stuff.. i mean there are some great Electronic artists but ye never hear of it. With radio in general... i mean the likes of 2fm and fm104 etc they are commercial radio and are basically given almost a list for what is acceptable to play, by the station manager or producer. Its like a pie chart type thing as well. its ill be something like... News -Chart song- chart song - chart song - adbreak - "oldie" - chart song - 80's or 90's hit - and it basically does that for each like quater of an hour type thing... ending on news on the hour. Irish music... i think during an average show is about 5%.... and thats usually a christy moore song or maybe a snow patrol or a script because they are in the charts. Community radio is better for Irish air play because they arent funded by commercial companies. I mean if you can get a band in and talk to them because they are doing well etc.. why on earth cant ye just throw their songs into daytime air play??? all to do with cash! 3) What bands, in your own opinions should be achieving greater radio coverage. Also what bands have fallen by the wayside but could have and most likely would have stayed together were it not for the lack of support? I think band that put alot of hard work into what they have done and time and effort and money. IMO i think anyone whos put hard work in should get something to show. Being told NO the whole time and getting yer hopes up each time before that will break most people even if yer not in a band. Bands are human too! I cant remember particular bands that broke up because of lack of support. But as ye all know Delos almost did because if it. I am sooo happy they didnt because they are amazing and the sooner Irish people and Irish radio get it into their heads that a band doesnt have to be good because they are from outside ireland or because they went and did good state side or in the UK the fricken better. A band coming from the states doesnt have to be good.. they have enough people to support them and theres enough money due to population.. 4) If you disagree and believe homegrown Irish acts do get enough support then please elaborate. Every story has two sides.[/quote] PFFFFFYTTTTTTTTTT

1) Do you folk believe that homegrown Irish acts receive enough radio airplay in Ireland? Nope.
2) Stations such as Phantom FM have gone some way to promote Irish acts but they only cater to a specific genre of music. What radio stations in your opinion should be most responsible for playing homegrown Irish music? The national radio stations like 2fm and Today FM should deffinately play a whole lot more. Yeah, they do play their little bit, but not near enough. They do play a fair amount of U2, Snow Patrol, Blizzards and Coronas, but after that it's touch and go. I think they should focus more on the irish acts that need the airplay instead of just using the better known irish bands. I know Spin and RnaG have their Irish Alternative show on Sunday mornings, but who really listens to radio on Sunday morning at 10? Shows like that should be put on at a time where more people are listening.
3) What bands, in your own opinions should be achieving greater radio coverage. Also what bands have fallen by the wayside but could have and most likely would have stayed together were it not for the lack of support? I definately think Delos should be getting a load more radio play, and there are a lot more that should also be too. I don't know if these bands split because of a lack of support, but I'd love to have seen Kinetiks going on, Kharma 45, Giveamanakick, The Chalets..
4) If you disagree and believe homegrown Irish acts do get enough support then please elaborate. Every story has two sides.
