If you're going to a gig, would you prefer to see a band in a huge venue (1000+ capacity) or a small intimate club (3-500 capacity)? And why?

Definitely smaller. More intimate, more band/audience interaction, better atmosphere in my opinion. Take the Quill for example. Perhaps the BYOB and the excitement of it being SECRET added to it, but that was probably my favourite of the 20 odd Delorentos gigs. Really great atmosphere there. While the Academy this year was great too, the crowd were talking during some of the slower songs (or maybe during all of it, but you could really hear it during LTLGO and I Remember especially) which can't really be helped at larger gigs but I think intimate gigs tend to be more about the music. Which is what I like

Oh and I'd love to be at a gig where capacity was 3 ;D
(The Road Recs instore probably wasn't all that much more, I'd venture a guess at 25/30? and that was amazing)

Road Records Anyway, this question was inspired by Delorentos on Facebook but I was asking it in more general terms regarding all bands, not just Delos. For example I've seen Snow Patrol play the Gate theatre to only a few hundred people and it was pretty average. Possibly because it was a seated gig which restricted movement but still the music itself didn't have the same feel to it as it would in a packed out Point.

it realy depends like i love both when its a brilliant band, but small gigs can be annoying when hardly anyone knows the words and arent as excited as you etc. (or if theres hardly any one ther, eg PP in blanch wer i actually sat for the whole thing it can kinda kill the atmosphere) and in a huge venue thers that amazing feeling when everyone is singing with you at the top of their lungs, like at festivals etc. but a packed small venue can sometimes feel the same, and you always get chatting to lovely ppl at smaller gigs afterwards wer as at bigger ones every1 jst goes home, so many pros and cons for both...

Yeah, I think it depends on the band too like. Some bands wouldn't be suited to a small venue and other bands can pull it off. I way prefer smaller venues though, as long as everyone gets involved with it and doesn't just sit doing nothing..

The joint female posters of the year both fail to explain their choice as asked. Looks like someone else will be taking the crown this year

Definitely a smaller venue. The Academy gig was brilliant but as ais said people were talking through it and again for the more intimate songs.. I feel like shushing people.
It also depends on the venue as well... It its a small crappy venue its kinda shite.
I was at a gig with a total of 6 people in the room.. Not in including Delorentos and The Immediate... It was great for me but i dont think the guys enjoyed it.

The joint female posters of the year both fail to explain their choice as asked. Looks like someone else will be taking the crown this year I'm sure the person who quit the board and then came crawling back has more chance on an award I said small because it's more intimate, more special, closer to the band. The bigger the gig the closer it gets to just putting on a cd.
